Elegant Escape Kempton bound after Grade 2 success

Elegant Escape Kempton bound after Grade 2 success

Elegant Escape recorded the biggest victory of his blossoming career when landing the Grade 2 Ladbrokes John Francome Novices Chase at Newbury on Saturday for Colin Tizzard.

The well-supported son of Dubai Destination, who had chased home Samcro in his four-year-old maiden at Monksgrange when with Gordon Elliot, has opened-up at 11/1 before being sent off as a 5/1 shot for the 2m 7f contest.

Making much of the running, only headed briefly heading out on the final circuit, Harry Cobden got a great tune out of the bay gelding, who proved himself to be a game sort as he rallied once challenged by the second favourite, Black Corton, to win by three-quarters of a length.

Victory in the £40,000 contest for the five-year-old marked a firth success over fences having finished second at both Cheltenham and Exeter earlier in the autumn.

Winning trainer Colin Tizzard has high hopes for the progressive youngster who was introduced at 33/1 for the Grade 1 RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

“He is a 140-rated horse and is only a five-year-old, whereas the rest were all six or seven.

"He has it all in front of him and is a lovely young horse that we will hopefully have for the festivals in the spring. I suppose there’s a good chance that he could end up in the Feltham (Grade 1 Novices Chase at Kempton on St. Stephen’s Day)”.

Winning rider Harry Cobden was equally bullish on the prospects for Elegant Escape.

“He jumped the last well to be fair considering there was no stride there and he stayed on very well.
He is a lovely big beautiful horse and I am sure that he has got a big future ahead of him. I’m pretty sure he won’t be running off 137 ever again”.
