WEEKEND PREVIEW: Bandon (Sunday)

WEEKEND PREVIEW: Bandon (Sunday)

Race 1: Barryroe Co-op & Chris McCarthy Greenbuild Ltd 5yo Geldings Maiden

The French-bred DIX DE DER is out of an Agent Bleu mare who had an excellent strike record with her off-spring, and this could be an ideal opportunity for him to build upon his opening three efforts which saw him finish fifth at Aghabullogue most recently. With little placed form on offer, the newcomers are worth a market check. Mark Cahill won a similar race at Knockanard last week and could be represented here by Dancing Dave, whilst Dawn Sunrise represents the connections of leading Hunter Chaser Burning Ambition.

Race 2: Bandon Motors & Bandon Co-op 5yo+ Adjacent Maiden

Patrick McCarthy saddled Rodeo Dodo to win this race 12 months ago when he returned as the only finisher, and he will be hoping for a similar success with the newcomer Black Deed in this years renewal. Of those that we have seen in pointing action, TRIO FOR RIO would appear to set the standard having finished third at Tallow earlier this month, whilst Robert Tyner could introduce Beet Hopper and his horses always have to be respected.

Race 3: Fernhill House Hotel & Gardens Open

Marinero and MORNING ASSEMBLY both go in search of last minute Cheltenham Foxhunters qualification here, and with alternative opportunities for both this weekend, they will likely not have to take each other on. Whichever of the two does run here will be primed for a big run. Murdo Mackenzie will ensure those classy track recruits do not have it all their own way, as he lowered the colours of another former Grade 1 winner in Lac Fontana at Killeagh last month. and it must be remembered that he ran out a 20-length winner of this race last year.

Race 4: Springmount Stud & AIB Bank 6yo+ Geldings Maiden

GOTAWAY offered plenty of promise on his debut when finishing third at Bellharbour to Upperstown Prince, a horse who finished second in a Grade 2 at Haydock last weekend. Whilst this Getaway gelding has been well-beaten in four starts since, the return to the point-to-point fields could be rewarded. Chance It, placed four-times under rules, has failed to complete both outings this year, but is capable of going close in this grade and represents an in-form yard, whilst On Raglan Road travelled well for a long way on his point debut at Ballinaboola, and the former Willie Mullins charge could get involved here.

Race 5: Glenview.ie 5yo+ Mares Maiden

Only the more experienced Cloone Lady got the better of ROLLERCOASTER at Bellharbour earlier in the month on what was just her first completed run, and she could well prove to be the answer in this. Devitosredrobin only made her debut last Sunday, and having run well for a long way before exiting in spectacular fashion at the final fence, she is bound to come on for the run, whilst the experienced Valcourt and consistent performer Honest To Goodness, are sure to be involved in the place battle.

Race 6: Kevin OLeary & McLauglins Medical Hall, Bandon Winner of One

An intriguing contest which pitches two impressive recent maiden winners, Definite Dilemma and CALDERONE, against each other on their first starts in Winners Company. The latter is well-bred and is given the slight preference, but there may not be a lot between them. Piece A Cake was outclassed in a Galway bumper during the autumn, but she was a nice winner at Tralee late last season and cannot be discounted.
