Timmy O'Callaghan has sadly passed away

We were very sorry to hear of the sudden passing of former champion point-to-point rider Timmy O’Callaghan.

He was one of the leading riders in the 1970’s both between the flags and under rules.

He was crowned champion point-to-point rider in 1978 finishing six winners clear of his nearest rivals, Nicky Dee and Leo Hayes.

Timmy O’Callaghan partnered 174 point-to-point winners between 1969 and 1993.

The Cork native was also a very successful trainer and particularly good at producing young horses.  Some of the horses to emerge from his stable include the likes of Kilgoura, Barrysville, Vulgan’s Pass who won the Tattersalls Gold Cup and of course Cheltenham Festival winner Raymylette who won many races for Nicky Henderson in the colours of Lady Lloyd-Webber.

O’Callaghan was also recipient of the Point-to-Point Personality Award in 1988 having ridden winners in four decades.

Timmy will be deeply missed by all and we offer our sincerest condolences to the Family at this difficult time.
