Sandmason's progeny enjoys success at Aintree

Sandmason’s progeny hit the headlines yet again when he sired his second Grade one winner in just over a month when Black Op took the Betway Mersey Novices´ Hurdle at Aintree on Saturday.

The seven-year-old was a 25 length winner on debut at Loughanmore two years ago for Rodney Arthur and was subsequently sold for £210,000 to Roger Brookhouse at the Goffs UK April sale.

Black Op entered the race on the back of a decent run at Cheltenham in the Grade one Ballymore Novice hurdle to finish just two and three quarter lengths second to Samcro.

Now trained by Tom George, Black Op is the second winner by Sandmason for George to enjoy success with this season following Summerville Boy’s victory in the Grade one Sky Bet Supreme Novice hurdle at Cheltenham.

This was Summerville Boy’s second Grade one this year following his win in January when he beat Kalashnikov by four lengths at Sandown in the Tolworth Hurdle.

Sandmason is a Group two winning son of Grand Lodge who held a time form rating of 121 and is out of the Group three winning mare Sandy Island.
