Jamie Codd suffers fracture in Ballysteen fall

Leading rider Jamie Codd is expected to make a full recovery from a heavy fall that he suffered from Maypole Class in the four-year-old maiden at Ballysteen on Sunday.

The Wexford native came down at the sixth fence in a fall in the day’s opening race and was treated on-course for a time by the medical team before being transferred to University Hospital Limerick for further assessment.

Follow a CT scan which was taken on Monday morning, doctors have discovered that he has suffered a fracture of his L3 vertebra in his lower back.

Codd is hoping to be discharged from hospital either today (Tuesday) or tomorrow and will face a number of months on the side lines as he recovers from the injury before returning to the saddle.

That news is sure to be warmly received by all within point-to-pointing and we look forward to his return to action later in the year.
