Formed in 1820, Newry Hunt is a large pack located in Northern Ireland. The pack hunts the area between Warren Point and Scarva.

The end of the hunting season for Newry Hunt coincides with the running of their annually point-to-point at Taylorstown.

The point-to-point has been run at the current location in Taylorstown for two decades and has been host to some horses that have gone on to besuccessful on the track. Namely,Truckers Tavern, a winner at Taylorstown in 2000 and Ballyholland, winner of the Galway Plate in 2011.

Lisronagh, Co. Tipperary

The Tipperary Foxhounds are one of the oldest packs in Ireland, dating back to 1820 and hold two point-to-points each year on the same popular and well-appointed track in the spring and in the autumn. The track has a circuit of just under a mile, with undulating land and can be used both right and left handed.

Point-to-point secretary Ber Bourke commented: “The track passed the inspection this morning so everything is ready and looking great.

“We got a brilliant entry of 163 and are hoping to attract a good crowd for Saturday’s meeting.

“We have a dog show organised which is due to start at 4pm and has been kindly sponsored by Maxi Zoo. It cost

€3 per class to enter or 2 classes for €5. The following are the dog show classes:

1. Best Puppy (under 12 months)
2. Best Jack Russell
3. Best Small dog
4. Best Large dog
5. Best dog outside County Tipperary

“There will be a BTO prize for each horse which has been sponsored by The Equine Warehouse. Also on the day we are holding a Most Appropriately dressed man and woman competition. I would like to thank all our sponsors for their support towards the point-to-point and also the farmers whose land we crossed during the hunting season”.

The Bree Foxhounds will stage their rescheduled spring fixture at Monksgrange on sunday. This track, owned by the Hill family of Dawn Run fame, has produced one of the most talked about national hunt horses in training at the moment, Samcro, who won his four-year-old maiden there in 2016.

Bree Hunt point-to-point is the perfect day out for the family in the countryside. Bring a picnic and enjoy lunch Al Fresco under the back drop of the Blackstairs Mountains.

The East Galway Foxhounds are holding their point-to-point at the new venue of Stowlin by kind permission of Billy Treacy.

Point-to-point secretary Bridie Larkin commented: “We are delighted to be able to hold a point-to-point this season which is at the picturesque venue of Stowlin house.

“We have organised music on the track after the last race and there will also be bouncy castles on the day for the younger racegoers.

“Our outside food caterers will be selling loads of different hot food options and there will also be a cake stand on day which will be selling lots of lovely treats.

Ballindenisk point-to-point has a long history of holding point-to-points, dating back over a hundred years. The original point-to-point races were held over a banks course in the 1890’s.

The course is situated on the farm of Robert Fell and is also used for eventing as well as having hosted European and World Championships.

Point-to-point secretary Dan Kissane reported; “We got a good entry this weekend which we are deligted with.

“The Aintree Grand National winning jockey, Davy Russell will be attending the point-to-point on Sunday and the hunt committee will be making a presentation to him during the day.”
