Oldcastle point-to-point has been the home of the Ballymacad Foxhounds fixture since 1977 and the committee will hold their rescheduled meeting on Sunday following it's cancellation in April and they have been rewarded with a bumper entry.

Point-to-point secretary Rachel Gilsenan commented; "If the ground needs to be aerated for Sunday we will do so. We got a brilliant entry so hopefully there will be good racing.

“We will have something for all ages on Sunday, as there will be free children’s entertainment which includes a bouncy castle.

"The younger hunt members have organised a dog show on the day which will cost €3 to enter for one class or €5 for two classes. Classes include 'the dog I would like to take home' and a class for the best young handler.

“On the day there will be a crepe van, ice-cream van, barista style coffee cart as well as a fast food outlet. If race goers don’t want hot food on the day, some of our hunt members will be serving sandwiches, cakes and other sweet treats in the catering tenth.

Speaking on behalf of the organising committee, Frankie Ward reported; “Things couldn’t be better for Sunday. We will have something for everyone.

“Point-to-point handler, John Hanlon will be judging the best dressed individual on the day which has a prize fund of €200. There will be a best turned out prize in each race which will be €100 to the winner, even if the race is divided.

“We will be presenting a cheque on the day from our meeting last year for €3,000 to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. All of our races our sponsored by point-to-point handlers and the winners' race on the day will be in memory of Patrick McCormack who tragically left us this year.

“Brian Mortell will be supplying the food for all of the volunteers, riders, owners and trainers on the day.

“During the day there will be pony rides and bouncy castles which will all be free to avail of. We will also be holding a dog show in between races and after the last race there will be a pony derby which will have riders from all of Ireland taking part from ages 7-14.

"We have also organised a Jazz band to play on Sunday to provide additional entertainment for racegoers."
