Chosen Dream eases to victory at Stratford

Chosen Dream eased to victory in the hands of Mark O’Hare in the 60th running of the Pertemps Network Stratford Foxhunters Champion Hunters' Chase at Stratford at the long price of 66/1.

The Graham McKeever-trained 10-year-old was waited in rear by O’Hare for much of the 3m3f contest before making steady headway over the final half a mile alongside his stable companion and last year’s runner-up, Balnaslow.

The Chosen Dream gelding travelled well to take up the lead at the final fence where he went away from his nearest rival, Asockastar by seven lengths with the Derek O’Connor-ridden Balnaslow back in fourth.

Formerly owned by the late Mrs Peggy Hagan, Chosen Dream now carries the colours of Margaret Simpson and was a winner at Kirkistown in November before finishing runner-up at Largy and third in the Down Royal hunter chase behind Sizing Rome in May.

This was the second time for O’Hare to steer the 10-time point-to-point winner to success as he won a hunter chase at Downpatrick aboard him two years ago.

This was the first success for an Irish-trained winner since Mossey Joe’s victory in 2013 under Damian Skehan.

Last season’s champion point-to-pointer, Ourmanmassini appeared to be travelling well under Anthony Fox only to make a bad mistake at the third last fence which halted his chances and the 10-year-ols stayed on in the home straight to take the fifth spot.
