TRACK GUIDE

Lisronagh has been home to the Tipperary Foxhounds point-to-point since 2007 and is a left-handed course of a mile in circumference which has featured a number of different layouts over the years.

On the latest course configuration which was introduced in November 2020 following an extension of the track, the runners begin at the entrance to the shortest of three straights, racing uphill over the opening fence.

They then turn left-handed before racing downhill to fences two and three which come up quite quickly after each other on the straight parallel to the Clonmel road.

A tighter bend at the bottom of the course brings the runners into the new and extended home straight which sees them continue straight after the road crossing past where they previously would have turned left into the old home straight.

The first fence in this straight, fence three, remains in its original position early in the straight, with the final fence now being jumped on a slight incline on the extension before the finish line.

Two of the best hunter chasers of recent times both won their maidens at the course within the space of nine months in 2010, with both On The Fringe and Salsify, claiming five-year-old maidens at the course.

The extension to the track has been a big positive as it has made it into much more of a galloping track.

It would not be as tight anymore and in my opinion, it is now a much fairer track than it had been in the past.

On the old track, it was very hard to make up ground, whereas you have a lot more options to ride the race to suit your individual horse.
