TRACK GUIDE

Tattersalls Farm is a big wide galloping course that is situated on the same ground as the Tattersalls International Horse Trials, and it has hosted a number of hunts over the years including the Ward Union, Louth, Fingal and Meath & Taras

Its reputation as a very fair course typically ensures that it attracts big fields and competitive racing with Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner Yorkhill, one of the big name horses to emerge from it in recent times.

A right-handed course of over a mile, a total of 15 fences are jumped over the 3-miles, with the races beginning at the exit of the back straight. Just one fence has to be negotiated on the long run to the home straight, providing the runners with a nice introduction, with two fences positioned in the home straight.

After turning right-handed, the runners quickly leave the ground at fence four which has been re-positioned out of the home straight, with fence five, the only fence along the back straight, coming quite soon after.

A long run follows as the field race steadily downhill before passing their point of departure, with a steady pull from there back to the line.

This is a lovely track that races in October and December, it is a big galloping track where you do two and a quarter circuits.

The ground always tends to be soft, you can usually drop in and ride a race. Going out the last time from the top of the hill you can start making a move and by the time you get down the bottom, swinging into the third last you would want to be in a good position to challenge. I find it is nice to be on the inside around here.

The open ditch is a small bit unique but I find it rides very well.
