Tallow point-to-point is one of the oldest fixtures on the calendar and one that remains popular, taking place within the heart of a real racing community on the doorsteps of a number of well-known point-to-point training establishments and stud farms.

A left-handed track with a distinctive layout, the runners begin just prior to the final fence which is bypassed on the opening lap ensuring that there is an extended run to reach the first obstacle. The field pass up in front of the judge and turn out of the home straight before they leave the ground at that fence, before taking the bottom bend into the back straight.

Running alongside the road, the field climb slightly to fence two, which is the first of two fences in the back straight which come up in quite quick succession. After negotiating fence three, the runners race downhill slightly on their way into the next bend, which begins the run for home. Fence four is jumped on the side of the course, on the shortest of the four straights, and after jumping that obstacle, they are immediately on the home bend, as they have quite a decent run through their start point and on to the final obstacle, before facing the run-in.

2008 Irish National winner Hear The Echo, 2013 Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup winner Realt Mor and Grade 1 Punchestown Gold Cup winner Boston Bob, are among the horses to have won their maiden at the course before going on to big race success later in their careers.
