TRACK GUIDE

An undulating right-handed course, Templenacarriga was first introduced to the point-to-point fixture list in January 2014.

Runners begin in a separate starting chute along the back straight with a nice run to the first of two fences that are jumped on this section of the course. After jumping the second of those fences, the runners take a gentle right-handed bend to race along the side of the course. There is a long run between fences two and three, and as the runners begin to approach the home bend, the there is a noticeable climb all the way to this third obstacle, which comes up quite quickly in the home straight.

After passing by the winning post, the runners make their way on towards fence four which is jumped alongside the betting ring. Quickly, the runners are turning out of the home straight and racing steeply downhill into a dip along the side of the course. Upon climbing out of the dip, the runners arrive back close to their starting point and make their way into the back straight to complete a lap of the course.

Grade 1-winner Monalee won his maiden at the course as a five-year-old on his very first run.

Templencarriga is one of the toughest circuits In the southern region, and the ground is always very heavy.

It is a very fair track to ride and the best horse usually wins. It is a good track to jump around, but it takes a lot of getting, so it tends to suit a slower horse that stays galloping.

A tough front runner can take some pegging back around here.
