Weekend Preview | Castletown-Geoghegan

Race 1: Goffs UK Autumn P2P Sale 4yo Maiden

In a race that features plenty of newcomers, it may be the Denis Murphy-trained BUSINESS MAN that is the pick of those with previous experience having finished in the placings at Largy. That debut effort saw him finish a respectable third behind subsequent sales topper Lecales Article. Among the potential Colin Bowe representatives, Monsieur Darque finished fifth at Bellharbour and Blackstairs Lad came home in fourth at Durrow, whilst Memory Tree from the Paul Power team finished third at Dromahane behind the four-time bumper winner Longhouse Sale and are others to consider.

Race 2: Mullingar Agri Store 5&6yo Mares Maiden

Reigning Champion Handler Colin Bowe will looking to get the defence of his title off to a good start with an opening weekend winner, and LIVELY BEAT could well do that if she was able to return to the promise of her debut showing at Bartlemy. That run at Bartlemy would give her the edge over Lisronagh second Maliboo, who finished behind her on that occasion, and is now set to make her reappearance for a new yard having joined the Denis Murphy stable over the summer.

Race 3: Winner Of Two

Already proven in open company, SANDYCOVE ISLAND comes into this with race fitness on his side having been campaigned over fences during the summer, and he will look to pick-up where he left of last season when coming home in front at Inchydoney. Star Wizard has finished placed on both previous runs around here and can go close once again, alongside two-time winner Cubanera, who was sent off as the favourite for the older maiden on this card 12 months ago.

Race 4: My Dream Boat 5&6yo Geldings Maiden

Peter Flood has done particularly well with the former track performers that he has sourced in recent years and so MAJOR DAVIS has to be given plenty of respect here ahead of his points debut. The French-bred comes into the race having finished placed on five occasions for Warren Greatrex, including a narrow defeat on reappearance at Towcester in May off a mark of 105. Conditions should certainly be in his favour. Oscar Academy has been knocking on the door for some time and is the clear alternative, with Gaye Breeze, The Ferry Master and stable debutant Quill Road, others to have filled the placings in the past.

Race 5: Open- Novice Riders

A DECENT EXCUSE returns in his bid to win this race for the second consecutive year and connections have every reason to be confident in his chances of doing so, having had a number of his potential rivals, such as former champion pointer Ourmanmassini, and eight-time winner Eddies Miracle, behind him on that occasion. The Sam Curling pairing of After Eight Sivola and Longhouse Music are both last time out winners, with the returning Art Of Logistics another capable individual, who spend last season on the sidelines.

Race 6: 6yo Maiden

Track recruit MAJOR DAVIS is rated 105 over hurdles following a number of placed efforts, and if he was to take up this easier engagement, having also been entered earlier on the card, he is hard to look passed. There are a host of other ex-track performers in this with the mare Kiera Royale perhaps the pick of those challengers on account of her eight placed efforts. Meanwhile, Ted, Smooth Spoon and Ask Harry, are horses with points form that cannot be discounted.
