Bonus prize up for grabs once again as GAIN Mares Series Launched

Champion point-to-point handler Colin Bowe and top riders Barry O’Neill and Rob James were joined by GAIN Equine Nutrition Business Manager John Hore for the launch of the 2018/19 GAIN Mares Series which kicks off at the Kilkenny point-to-point on Sunday November 4th.

The Series has been running for almost three decades and covers 21 legs in 7 counties, with the much coveted final taking place in Ballynoe, Co. Cork on Sunday March 31st 2019.

Bowe’s yard in Kiltealy, Co. Wexford provided the perfect backdrop for this year’s series launch.

Colin, who was crowned Champion Handler last season with 34 winners, is a keen supporter of the GAIN Mares Series and remarked: “the Series sets out a clear plan for mares during the season.”

GAIN along with the Ballynoe Point-to-Point committee will provide a €3,000 bonus for the winner of the final, as well as a half-tonne of feed for both second and third place in the race.

The 2018 final was a competitive renewal with Milan Dancer winning by a comprehensive six lengths to claim the title and valuable bonus.

She was trained by Co. Derry-based trainer Noel Kelly and ridden by former northern champion Noel McParlan – demonstrating the wide reach and appeal of the series.

Founder and Director of Irish Point-to-Point Services Richard Pugh said: “the GAIN Mares Final has built up a reputation over the years and is a much sought after prize.

“This additional support will surely incentive owners to keep running mares in point-to-points and reward them for doing so which is so important in the current climate.”

Joanne Hurley Irish Country Manager commented: “many of our valued customers raise and race horses for the point to point market and we are proud to support this valuable sector of the industry through the GAIN Mares Series initiative.

“We wish all connections the best of luck in the season ahead.”
