Weekend Preview | Durrow 23rd March

Race 1: Kepak & The Walsh Family 4yo Mares Maiden

All Rocked Up was pitched in against geldings for her debut at Tyrella at the beginning of the month, whilst Delightfantastic finished fifth at Turtulla, and they are the two pieces of previous form on offer in this race.

It may be that the newcomers offer further promise, with many of the leading yards represented.

Race 2: Tattersalls Ireland 4yo Maiden - Auction

A race confined to horses sold for E25,000 or less at the store sales last year, and SCENE NOT HEARD, may bring the strongest form into the race, as he ran well for a long way before falling at the last in Turtulla.

The market will give the best guide as to what to expect from the newcomers.

Race 3: Goffs UK, Aintree Sale 5yo Geldings Maiden

BRIEF AMBITION looked all over the winner coming to the final fence in a big field maiden at Punchestown on his debut, however a slow leap at the last proved costly and he was forced to settle for third. Barrowlands is the obvious alternative as he has been knocking on the door for some time, and only went down by a neck to the subsequent Lismore winner Notice To Close at Knockanard last month.

Keep Wondering has likeable four-year-old form from Oldcastle but slipped up on his return recently, whilst his stable mate Up The Straight was a well-beaten favourite at Tyrella.

Race 4: Connollys Red Mills & ITBA 6yo Mares Maiden

GETAWAYTONEWBAY ran a big race on her return from a short break when finishing second to an above average sort in a big field maiden at Lingstown recently. It would be no surprise to see her go one better in this.

Sadhbhs Delight is the obvious danger as she brings a wealth of placed experience to the race, including a fine third to younger horses at Borris House. She deserves to go close in this. Of the others, Kileen Girl would have a chance if recapturing her Ballingarry form.

Race 5: Rathbarry & Glenview Stud & B D Flood,Trim 6yo Geldings Maiden

DUCKPHIL ran a career best when chasing home Royal Drumlee at Armagh last month and if he could replicate that performance he would look to be the one to side with in this. Cotton Rock took a step forward at Tallow, the well-related De Barley Basket is well related and he too could be of interest representing an inform stable.

Witness Protection, one of two entries for Martin Cullinane, got no further than the second at Nenagh, however he did get among the placings at Dromahane over the Christmas period which would give him claims, whilst Berekerys Engima was only beaten by nine lengths on his debut and can be expected to improve.

Race 6: Midland Veterinary, Tullamore Mares Winner Of One

The Donnchadh Doyle-trained MADERA MIST quite comfortably accounted for Bannixtown Glory at Borris House earlier this month, and with that horse coming out and winning a week later by no less than 18 lengths, it is fair to say that performance received a boost. The daughter of Stowaway looks the one to beat here.

Seaside Girl is the obvious danger having won by 15 lengths on debut, whilst Maiftizs Madonna won well at Turtulla and unlike many of her rivals, she is battle-hardened with plenty of experience behind her which will stand to her here. Dont Say A Thing was no match for Cool Dove at Cragmore but cannot be discounted, with a similar comment applying to Quarry Lil who was unable to justify her short price at Belclare.
