Sholokhov enjoys 15th point winner of the season

Sholokhov has enjoyed a stellar season thus far recording 15 point-to-point winners in total. The Grade 1 winning sire stands at Rathbarry Stud in County Cork and has sired some notable performers including the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Don Cossack.

The stalion added two point-to-point winners to his seasons tally when Kruzhlinin enjoyed further successes over the weekend. The son of Sholokhov has now achieved 11 winners for the season following his open wins on Saturday at Loughanmore and on Sunday in Ballindenisk.

Owned by Camilla Sharples and trained by Gordon Elliot, the 12-year-old is now tied at the top of the Champion Pointer table with Sam Curling's Longhouse Music.

Sholokhov has also sired some impressive youngsters including Wide Receiver and Muckamore. The former realised £410,000 at the Cheltenham February Sales this year following an impressive debut success in the four-year-old maiden at Cragmore.

Winning by a comprehensive eight lengths, this Edgar Allen-owned and Cormack Farrell-trained bay made a big impression on that occasion.

Muckamore is another promising Sholokhov youngster who made £190,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival sale back in March last year. The €16,500 foal made a very taking debut for second in the four-year-old maiden at Loughanmore for Wilson Dennison and Colin McKeever.

Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls subsequently purchased the gelding following this promising start to his racing career.
