Pierce: it worked out well as Laurina had only started her racing career at the time

"The plan now is to head to the sales with her where hopefully there will be a good bit of interest in her as she has a nice pedigree with the scope and presence to back it up"

Moig South winner Immortality garnered plenty of interest at the Co. Limerick course courtesy of her stand out pedigree, as she is a full-sister to Grade 1 star Laurina.

Having her first start of the season, the five-year-old provided brothers Paul and Andrew Pierce with their first winners of the season in the five-year-old mares’ maiden on the card with her two and a half-length success.

Although costing €25,000 at the Derby sale, that price has proven to be a shrewd purchase as it came just six months before Laurina made her Irish debut for Willie Mullins.

Within a year she had won a Grade 1 contest at Fairyhouse and added a Cheltenham Festival success in the Trull House Stud mares novice hurdle to her season’s haul to add real note to her families page.

“We bought her on Johnny Collins recommendation and it worked out well as Laurina had only started her racing career at the time,” explains owner Andrew Pierce.

“She was a big raw lady that we knew was going to take time and she has taken until now to fill into her frame and reach her full potential.”

The Pierce brothers, who currently have 16 point-to-pointers in training, hail from Blackhall Stud in Glynn, Co. Wexford and like many other Wexford natives they are in the business of buying and selling young thoroughbreds.

“We were delighted with the way she won on Sunday. We were expecting her to run as well as she did, she shows a lot at home, she has lots of natural speed and ability. She also has a great technique at jumping and we believe she is going to develop into a smart type.”

The daughter of Spanish Moon will now once again return to the sales ring as she has been entered in the Tattersalls Cheltenham November sale next Friday.

“She came out of the race 100%, she could have run the next day. The plan now is to head to the sales with her where hopefully there will be a good bit of interest in her as she has a nice pedigree with the scope and presence to back it up,” Pierce adds.
