Wexford rider Jamie Codd was seen at his best when registering a double at the Stonehalls first meeting of the season at Moig South.

Yousayitbest provided Codd with his first winner of the afternoon when winning the Tattersalls Ireland four-year-old geldings’ maiden for handler Cian Hughes.

The son of Doyen, who was making his debut, produced a good round of jumping from the front and kept on gamely to register a two-length victory over Gabynako.

Peter Flood who owns a half-share in the winner said: “Jamie schooled this fella and felt he would take a bit of beating today and thankfully it’s worked out that way. He’s always been a lovely big horse from day one and we’ll hopefully move him on now.”

Codd didn’t have to wait long to register his second winner of the afternoon when landing the Hallinans Bar, Askeaton five-year-old mares’ maiden aboard the Paul Pierce handled Immortality.

This well-bred mare is a full-sister to the Willie Mullins Cheltenham Festival winner Laurina, and the daughter of Spanish Moon made it a pillar to post victory in the colours of her of owner Andy Pierce.

“Things didn’t fall right for this lady on her debut in the spring and Jimmy O’Rourke looked after her and it’s been the making of her,” said Andy Pierce, owner and brother of the winning handler.

“We bought her from Johnny Collins before Laurina came along, so it’s worked out well. She’ll go to Cheltenham sales now.”

Following a thrilling finish to the ITM Ladies open lightweight, the judge awarded a dead heat between the Declan Queally-handled Fennos Storm and Gearoid O’Loughlin’s Space Cadet.

Liz Lalor, who was aboard Fennos Storm registered her 105th career win bringing her closer to Helen Bryce Smiths record of 109.

Space Cadet supplied Lisa O’Neill with her first winner of the season and his handler Gearoid O’Loughlin indicated the nine-year-old will be given an entry for the valuable Troytown Chase at Navan later this month.

The Denis Hogan-handled Feralkat provided Jack Hogan with his first winner of the season when winning the opening Brian Collins Bookmaker, Askeaton four-year-old mares’ maiden.

The daughter of Schiaperelli was making her debut appearance for the Hogan team having had one run under belt last season for Harry Kelly.

Winning handler Denis Hogan said: “This horse joined us from Harry Kelly’s at the start of the summer. She was weak initially but has strengthened up now. “We were hopeful coming down and she did it well today.”

The Michael Murphy-handled gelding Bobby Bow overcame a mistake at the last to see off the staying-on debutant Creative Venture in the P J Dore Pumps & Irrigation Systems five-year-old geldings’ maiden.
The son of Frammassone lived up to the promise that he had shown when finishing fourth at Kinsale last season with the success.

“This is a horse I bought from his breeder Dermot Cross as a foal. I actually trained his half-brother Welcome Ben who won five for Jackie Stephen.

“He’s a lovely type that will probably be sold now,” said winning handler Michael Murphy.

Handler Jerry Baragry gave his son Shane the perfect present for his 21st birthday when winning the concluding Stonehall Harriers, Josh Sheahan & Anthony Kenny six-year-old and upwards geldings’ maiden aboard Lies About Milan.

The eight-year-old, who was making his debut, was given a fine waiting ride by his young rider.

Proud father Jerry Baragry said: “We felt this fella would take a bit of stopping on what he’s been showing us at home. We’ll probably have a look at a winners race in Rathcannon with him now.”
