Joint-champion pointer Longhouse Music returned to winning ways when landing the IM Bourke & Associates Ltd & Thomastown Castle Training Stables mares’ open in the hands of reigning western champion Derek O’Connor, who was making a successful return to action following his recent injury.

The Sam Curling-trained daughter of Gamut, who had met with defeat at Loughanmore just two weeks earlier, was always in cruise-control and assumed command on the run in to the final fence to beat last month’s Castletown-Geoghegan winner For Rita by a widening eight lengths.
“She will more than likely go onto run in Rathcannon in a couple of weeks and be given a break after that,” said winning handler Curling.

The first division of the Tattersalls Ireland four-year-old geldings’ maiden race was a strongly run contest which saw the €40,000 sales graduate Lifetime Ambition come out on top for Donnchadh Doyle, providing him with his second winner of the season.
The son of Kapgarde, who finished an eye-catching second on his debut at Loughanmore, came on from his debut appearance to score by six lengths when getting the better of the more experienced Tinahely fourth Pat’s Fancy.
Brother of handler Doyle, Eamon said: “We think this lad is an aeroplane. We felt he was unlucky first time out when things went wrong for him and he still managed to finish second.”

Former rider Con McSweeney sent out his first four-year-old maiden winner as a handler when Railway Hurricane recorded an impressive success in the second division of the Tattersalls Ireland four-year-old geldings’ maiden under fellow Cork native Darragh Allen.
The son of Perugino, who was a €6,000 store purchase, obliged by three lengths ahead of Away at Dawn.
Handler McSweeney said: “It’s mighty to get a four-year-old winner. He’s a horse we’ve loved from day one and we fancied him today. Darragh (Allen) was very good on him also to be fair. He’ll hopefully go to Cheltenham on Friday now.”

Handler Philip Fenton and rider Eoin O’Brien teamed up on the day, when winning the opening Goffs four-year-old mares’ maiden courtesy of newcomer Garter Lane.
Sporting the colours of syndicate owners Steeplechasers Club, the chestnut mare quickened clear in the closing stages to record a four-length victory over Always Able.
The Co. Tipperary handler said: “We’re delighted with that. We feel she’s one with a bright future going forward. Eoin (O’Brien) was delighted with her jumping overall.”

Handled by Cormac Farrell from Bunclody, Wexford, the favourite  Shallow Run ran out a 12-length winner over the Cian Collins-trained Donna’s Gold in the Mikey Ryans Bar & Kitchen five-year-old mares’ maiden.
The previously placed daughter of Sholokhov, who is appearing for the sixth time, jumped impressively throughout and galloped all the way to the line to record an impressive victory in the hands of Simon Cavanagh.
“All of this is down to her owner Edgar (Allen) who spotted her in the sales at Cheltenham. He went and bought her from Colin Motherway, who had done a great job with her last year. She’ll have a few more runs in points now for experience,” said Farrell.

The Farm Ed Ltd five-year-old geldings’ maiden saw Crossing Lines make his initial start for Ellen Doyle a victorious one when recording an authoritative success in the hands of John O’Neill.
A half-brother to three-time track winner and four-time points winner Arctic Skipper, the debutant asserted from three-out to return ten lengths clear of the previously placed Elmdale.
“That is mighty as he is owned by our mother Maura and she’ll be thrilled with that. He always has been a nice horse who has just taken a bit of time and we will probably go for a winners race now,” said the handler’s brother James.

Steelers Appeal, who had placed for handler Matty Tynan in the five-year-old maiden at the corresponding 2018 fixture, made his first competitive outing since a successful one, rewarding the perseverance of his connections, when putting in what was by far his best performance to date, under owner Thomas Prendergast’s nephew Niall Prendergast.
The son of Beneficial came home ten lengths clear of Acceptable Risk in the six-year-old and upwards maiden, which saw only three of the nine starters finish.
“Fair play to Niall (Prendergast), he kept out wide for the better ground and executed the plan perfectly. Niall also comes in every morning and rides the horse out. This horse has a touch of class but had to have a bit of time off after his run at this meeting last year. I think we’ll aim for a winners’ now,” said Tynan.
