Weekend Preview | Ballyvodock 02nd February

Race 1 - Water Rock Golf Course 5yo Geldings Maiden

MONGOL EMPEROR finished a decent second to Anglers Crag at Ballindenisk back at the start of the month and could easily go one place better here for the Andrew Slattery team.

Mount Oscar represents one of two entries for Colin Bowe in this contest and without a doubt will have his supporters on the day. There are a number of newcomers entered and any market moves could be worth following.

Race 2 - OConnell Group 5yo Mares Maiden

The Marie Harding-trained ROSA GLORIOSA improved vastly on her debut run on her latest effort in Kinsale back in June where she was just touched off by Presenting Ana, and she is bound to be involved at the business end here.

Sam Curling is doubly represented in this contest, but his daughter of Westerner, Western Fiona, ran with plenty of credit when finishing fourth three weeks ago in Ballindenisk. Springfield Lodge will also have his supporters for the Eoghan O Grady yard, whilst Shellbeback and Slideaway are others to note.

Race 3 - Jerry McCarthy Carrigtwohill Shopping & Business Centre Winner Of Two

TEMPLEBREDIN has been a model of consistency this season to date, and certainly looks the one to beat on paper in this contest. Ciaran Fennessy could send out his first runner as a handler with his mare, Superefficient, whose form had been quite consistent before she went to England.

Top Question was last seen finishing a remote sixth in a Cork hunters chase, and perhaps a step back in class could see him get involved. Terence O'Briens, whilst Glencarrig Lad had not been seen since 2016, prior to his recent Ballindenisk run where he finished fifth. He is bound to have stripped fitter for that effort, and it would be of no surprise to see an improvement.

Race 4 - Brown Island Stables 5yo Confined Maiden (Nov Rdrs)

GET SUPREME represents handler Daniel Murphy and was just touched off recently in Carrigarostig by what was just a short head. Rwegoinhigh has been relatively consistent of late, and although he will have to improve on his last run in Dromahane, it would be no surprise to see him feature in what may prove to be the perfect opportunity for this gelding.

Shellbeback has also been quite consistent of late, being placed on many occasions without managing to get her head in front. Her last two efforts in confined class have been decent, where she has finished second on both of those, before then finishing third at Kinsale.

Race 5 - Midleton Park Hotel & Jack Spratts Bar, Carrigtwohill Mares Winner Of Two

SHUIL LUAS was very impressive in a mares winner-of-two back in December at Ballindenisk. Since then, she was beaten just 13 lengths by Mt Leinster Gold on her latest start in Carrigarostig, and that may just be good enough for the daughter of Brian Boru to get her head back in front.

Supereffecient also holds an entry in this contest for Ciaran Fennessy. Sovereign Gold was a winner on her last start at Aghabullogue for Damian Murphy and she could feature here once again, whilst The Forge Hill was also a winner on her last start for the Sean Doyle team at Knockmullen House back in November, and there is no reason why she could not get involved once again.

Race 6 - Norman Walsh and Guilders Bar 6yo Geldings Maiden

ONE FOR THE YARD finished second on his last start in Aghabullogue to Entre Deux, and should have every chance of going one spot better for the Ellen Doyle yard this time around.

Rwegoinhigh also holds an entry in this contest, whilst Etoile Du Matin has been consistent, finishing fourth on his only two starts to date. Glendruid finished a decent third to Lesser at Ballycrystal on his latest start, and a similar effort should see him involved in this contest.
