Weekend Preview | Borris House 01st March 2020

Race 1 - Goffs UK Aintree Sale 4yo Maiden

Matthew Flynn OConnor won this race 12 months ago with Sporting John, a horse that is now a leading contender for the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. His Ocovango newcomer COMES RECOMMENDED will be of interest if making his debut here. Colin Bowe and Denis Murphy have proven to be two of the yards to follow in this age group in recent weeks, and both could be well represented, including with a pair of previously placed youngsters in Barrichello and Coolvalla. That experience will certainly stand to them.

Race 2 - John M. Foley Solicitors 5yo Geldings Maiden

Having finished a close second at Ballyvodock on his debut earlier this month, PAY THE PIPER would have been expected to have gone one place better when sent off as the odds-on favourite at Nenagh on his re-appearance. He once again had to settle for the second spot, but would once again be the one to beat on the form book. The Dara Man got among the placings at Kirkistown, but could then only manage fifth in a red-hot Tyrella maiden by recent sales topper Only The Bold, Fully Authorised will hope to leave two final-fence falls behind him, whilst Ballycairn is an eye-catching newcomer.

Race 3 - Innovotec 5yo Mares Maiden

SHIROCCOS DREAM ran a big race on her debut at Tattersalls Farm when chasing home Rose Of Arcadia, a horse that was since bought by Cheveley Park Stud for 170,000 pounds sterling at the sales. A reproduction of that effort would certainly see her go close here. Victorias Peak is another that had to settle for the runners-up spot on her debut, chasing home Drumlee Getaway at Punchestown a fortnight, whilst Jackie Daniels was a big eye catcher on her debut at Lingstown, and having been given plenty of time since a disappointing effort around her before Christmas, she could not be ignored if recapturing her best. Little Mo, Davitt Road Glory, Rachels Surprise and Cappajune Lady are others in a big entry with definite place claims.

Race 4 - Duninga Gallops 5yo Adjacent Maiden

WEATHER CHECK ran a race full of promise around here before Christmas on his debut, with the son of Arakan travelling well before tiring in the closing stages to finish fourth. That came in a four-year-old maiden, ensuring this will be a notable drop in class, and he is certainly the one to beat on that initial effort. Trump Lady posted a career best when third at Tyrella last month, in a race which is already working out with the runner-up having won since. She could be a live alternative, whilst track recruit Jackyjoe proved to be a much more competitive force on his first outing in this sphere when a close third at Ballyvodock earlier this month.

Race 5 - Connollys RedMills Winner Of Two

ASKTHEBOSSLADY brings winning course form into this, as the daughter of Ask returned victorious on her debut in a four-year-old mares maiden around here in December. With the mares allowance in her favour, she could preserve her unbeaten record. Breakeven dropped down to Confined company to win his maiden at Ballycrystal last month and is the big threat, alongside Colonel Sam, who can put in a big performance if posting one of his better efforts.

Race 6 - Goresbridge Bloodstock Sales 6yo Geldings Maiden (Nov Rdrs)

ICY INFERNO has made the frame in two of his last three efforts, including quite a narrow defeat at Tattersalls Farm before Christmas. Representing connections that were among the winners at Tinahely last weekend, he could get the tentative selection in an open looking race. Crio Cuervos bounced back closer to his best at Punchestown and enters the race in good form, whilst One For The Yard put up a big display at Aghabullogue and Kalamkan is consistent, having finishing placed on no fewer than four occasions this season already.
