Seven declared for Down Royal Hunter Chase

Seven horses have been declared for the Down Royal Hunters Chase on Tuesday, run over two miles and three furlongs, with a prize fund of €10,000.

A host of interesting declarations have been made for Tuesday's contest including the Caroline McCaldin-trained Samurai Cracker (pictured above), who finished second to Mac's Legend at Thurles on his most recent start.  Set to be ridden by his regular partner Johnny Barry, the seven-year-old was victorious in a maiden hunter chase at Limerick over the Christmas period.

Winged Leader finished second in that contest at Limerick to McCaldin's charge, and the son of Winged Love has been successful on both starts since, both at Kirkistown and Farmaclaffley respectively. Leading rider Barry O'Neill has partnered the six-year-old on his past three starts and is set to do the steering once again this time around.

Like A Demon finished second to Well Bill at Tyrella last weekend for the Slevin team, and the seven-year-old is to be ridden by Cathal McCormack on Tuesday afternoon, who was also aboard the son of Central Park in the aforementioned Tyrella contest.

Mr Cosmos has been quite consistent of late for his handler William McLernon, and he comes into this contest having won on his most recent start at Knockmullen House where he took a seven-year-old and upwards maiden for novice riders. Paul Bannon is set to partner the son of Mr Dinos in Tuesday's contest.

Duty Calls finished a creditable third at Farmaclaffley in late-February behind On The Sod and Call It Time. Ridden by Brian Lawless on that occasion, the Co. Wicklow rider is set to partner the Rodney Arthur-trained seven-year-old once again.

Duckphil also has some decent efforts to his name of late, most recently finishing second to Westy Fox at Farmaclaffley where he was beaten by just one length. Neil Gault is set to partner the seven-year-old son of Buck's Boum.

Alpha Male made an encouraging comeback run at Punchestown in mid-November, where he finished sixth to Yanworth and most recently finished fourth to Rewritetherules at Punchestown. Set to be partnered by Pa King this time around, the nine-year-old completes the field of seven runners for Tuesday's contest.
