13 runners have been declared for Sundays Downpatrick Hunter Chase

13 horses have been declared for the Boardsmill Sires’ maiden hunter chase on Sunday which is run over 2m 7f with a prize fund of €10,000.

On The Sod has remained unbeaten on all three starts to date since his winning debut at Dromahane in December of 2018. Since then, the David Christie-trained son of Ask defeated Samurai Cracker by seven lengths in November 2019 before most recently taking a winner-of-two in facile fashion at Farmaclaffley last month and is sure to have a big chance with Rob James on board fresh from his Cheltenham festival success.

The Paddy Quinlan-trained Handy Headon won a seven-year-old and upwards geldings’ maiden at Tinahely in January by six lengths under Barry O’Neill and subsequently finished second to Rewritetherules on his most recent start at Punchestown in mid-February where he was beaten just half-a-length. Declan Lavery is set to ride him on the day.

Complete Sizing was beaten just a half-a-length on his latest start at Kildorrery last month behind Straidnahanna, and the eight-year-old is set to line up for the Jim Dreaper team and the booking of highly regarded points rider Jamie Codd is also a positive.

The John Costello-trained Heydour opened his account on his latest start at Cragmore, where he defeated the Bonny Boy by two lengths. John’s son Conor was aboard that day and is once again set to take the mount here.

A very easy winner of a mares’ open at Ballycahane on her latest start where she beat Rosfoyle by 12 lengths, last year’s champion mare Longhouse Music bids to add to her tally of 20 wins for the Sam Curling team.

The Watson team have two horses running in this contest in that of Well Bill and Danjaman, whilst the Willie Murphy-trained Kilgorey will also line up on the day.

The remainder of the field is made up of Amarillo Rose, Castlebawn, General Ryan, Getzie, and Holycross Lito.
