Champions Crowned | Thistletown Stud are leading breeders

Jimmy and Eileen Furlong of Thistletown Stud won this year’s breeders award.  They were the breeders of four individual winners of six races this season.
 
Jay Bee Why was the first winner of the season for Thistletown Stud, the Colin Bowe-handled gelding won his four-year-old maiden at Loughanmore by three lengths. 

He was then bought for £68,000 by Highflyer Bloodstock and Alan King at the Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale.

Double Smart from the Patrick Turley stable provided two winners for the breeders when winning the five-year-old mares' maiden at Kirkistown in November, before then going on to win the adjacent hunt winners race at Tyrella in March.

Beatthebullet was another horse to provide the Furlong's with two winners this season.  The son of Flemensfirth won his five-year-old maiden at Lingstown in November, and he then won a winner-of-two contest at the Ballinagore's new track at Ballycrystal in January.

Found On was on the scoresheet for the New Ross stud when having to share the spoils with Robin Des Smoke after a dead-heat was called in the four-year-old mares' maiden at Boulta in December.

Thistletown Stud are top consignors of National Hunt foals, they have featured in the top 10 consignors list at the Goffs National Hunt Foal Sale since 2015. 

Robert McCarthy of The Beeches Stud, who won this award three times, 2009, 2013 and 2016, finished second this year having bred four individual horses to win a total of four races.
