Murphy and Bowe team up in the sales ring as Doncaster continues

Having begun filling their stables on day one of the Goffs UK Summer Sale on Monday with the supplementary entries from the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale and Goffs Land Rover catalogues, further horses bound for the point-to-point fields were secured in the main Doncaster store catalogue.

Colin Bowe and Denis Murphy were busiest of all, as the Wexford handlers, who are rivals on the track, combined to purchase six horses together for an average spend of just over £20,000.

Their most expensive single purchase was lot 51, a Westerner gelding from Glenwood Stud that cost £38,000, whilst they also parted with £34,000 to secure the Mount Nelson filly (lot 84) that is an own-sister to Havingagoodtime, a Grade 3 winning Juvenile Hurdler.

They were not responsible for the most expensive individual purchase likely to be bound for point-to-points, with Michael Shefflin and Paul Holden securing Hitak (lot 186) for £50,000.

The French bred son of Lauro is notably out of a half-sister to JP McManus’ L’Ami, twice a runner-up at the Cheltenham Festival.

Donnchadh Doyle, Matthew Flynn O’Connor, Cormac Doyle, Warren Ewing, Richard Black, Ian Ferguson and Mick Goff were among the other point-to-point handlers to secure new horses for their 2021 teams.

At the completion of the day’s trade which saw 145 horses sold for an average price of £24,379, Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented:

“Selling NH Stores at the end of July was not something that we would have predicted when we were inspecting the horses for today’s sale, and the widely publicised events that have led to this week’s sale schedule have been a challenge for all attendees, but the wait has been worthwhile and we are delighted with today’s trade.

“Yesterday’s session was the perfect way to start the store sales season and set the tone for today, which has returned as vibrant a trade as we could have hoped for at the start of the week. We are grateful to all participants for their patience and understanding in the build up to this sale and we wish all buyers the best of luck with their new purchases.

“But the real praise is reserved for the vendors, who have worked with us to ensure that this revised schedule has delivered results that are more than acceptable given the delays that everyone had to endure.

“Our focus now turns to the Land Rover Sale in just over two weeks’ time and which features an excellent selection of top-class NH stores.”
