Rose Milan eases to wide-margin Fairyhouse success
Rose Milan ran out a wide-margin winner of the Berkshire at Kedrah House Stud Mares Maiden Hunter Chase at Fairyhouse on Tuesday on what was just a fourth career start for the lightly raced six-year-old.
A winner of her maiden at Bellharbour in February when dead-heating with Donnchadh Doyle’s Fashion Nova, and Mick Winters’ charge overcame some indifferent leaps in the early part of the race to launch her bid as the home straight approached.
The 85/40 favourite Sliabh Mhuire Lass took the field along under Derek O’Connor, however her advantage had diminished by the third-last fence, as Chis O’Donovan loomed large aboard Rose Milan, and once sent on heading to the penultimate fence, the daughter of Milan quickly put the race to be and ultimately prevailed by 16 lengths in the colours of her Waterford-based breeder Mark Walsh.
The field returned at wide intervals with runner-up Sliabh Mhuire Lass 12 lengths clear of Shuil Luas, with Springfield Lodge the last of four of the seven runners that set out to finish,
The success provided Cork jockey Chris O’Donovan with his first success under rules since the point-to-point race day at Cork back in April 2019 and continues a good recent run for him, having enjoyed three point-to-point successes in recent weeks.
