Jonbon Sets World Record P2P Price at Goffs UK November P2P Sale

Jonbon, the own-brother to the star Chaser Douvan, set the sale ring alight at today’s Goffs UK November P2P Sale at Yorton Farm when selling for £570,000 – a world record for a pointer sold at public auction.

Offered as Lot 8 by Ellmarie Holden’s Coolmeen Stables, the 4YO son of Walk In The Park produced a commanding 15-length victory on his debut P2P at Dromahane on Sunday which captured the attention of the National Hunt world. Offered early in today’s sale which is a new event for 2020, bidding opened at £200,000 and bids were taken from around Yorton’s beautiful curved yard sale ring before Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent landed the final blow on behalf of top owner J.P. McManus for £570,000.

The record price follows hot on the heels of last year’s Doncaster Spring HIT Sale where Goffs UK set the world record for the highest priced NH horse-in-training sold at public auction with Interconnected selling for £620,000.

Another to feature in today’s sale was Fiddaun Farm’s Jim Key (Lot 43), a 4YO gelding by Shantou who won his debut P2P at Lisronagh on Saturday and sold to Hamish Macauley for £215,000. Others to fetch six-figure sums were Bernice Stables’ Bold Endeavour (Lot 49) which sold to Laura Morgan for £190,000; Monbeg Stables' Undersupervision (Lot 63) which sold to Twiston-Davies Equine for £130,000; Milestone Stables’ Starevitch (Lot 31) which sold to Tom Malone & Jamie Snowden for £105,000 and Riverside House Stud’s Balco Coastal (Lot 40) which sold to Highflyer Bloodstock for £100,000.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent commented:

“I have never known a horse to be as highly touted following its success in a Point to Point and, if social media polls are to be believed, then Jonbon was always set to make a significant price but to achieve a record price for a Point to Pointer during these unprecedent times is simply incredible. We are extremely grateful to the Holden family for putting their faith in Goffs and sending him to Yorton where he certainly lived up to the hype following his brilliant performance on Sunday.

“Jonbon was the highlight of the sale but we were delighted with the trade achieved throughout the day. Whilst we are not pretending that it wasn’t selective at times, today was an opportunity to provide an outlet for these recent winners and the feedback that we received has been extremely positive. As such, we are indebted to James and Jean Potter, the Futter family and the Yorton team for hosting us today. They have done a fantastic to make room for us all and, once again, it has proven an outstanding facility which has worked fantastically well for vendors and buyers alike.

“We also want to recognise, and say a huge thank you to, our vendors who took a leap of faith when agreeing to bring their horses to Yorton following the COVID-19 restrictions in Doncaster. The Yorton Sale only started last year, meaning some had seen the facilities in a sales environment but it was still new to many and we are extremely grateful for their support in this difficult year.

“In all, it has been a difficult few weeks as we juggled sale locations and lockdowns but we were determined to offer a vibrant market place where pointers could be placed in front of buyers from throughout the UK and Ireland and we have achieved that. We now turn our attention to our Doncaster December Sale on 4 December in which we will offer horses-in-training alongside another top draft of UK and Irish pointers.”
