Rathbarry and Glenview Studs have an exciting new prospect on their roster this season in form of Old Persian.
The six-year-old son of Dubawi won nine times whilst under the care of Charlie Appleby which included two Group 1 victories, the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan and the Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine.
The Goldolphin bred Old Persian ran a total of nineteen times and amassed earnings of just under €4 million.
Paul Cashman of Rathbarry Stud said: ‘When you get a phone call from Anthony Stroud letting you know that he found the next Strong Gale for your Stud, then you take the next plane to inspect this horse and I was not disappointed.’
‘Old Persian is an outstanding looking individual with plenty of size and substance and a great athletic walk. Size in a National Hunt stallion is now a prime requirement of breeders as the store market wants individuals with size and scope that will be able to carry weight over the bigger obstacles.’
‘Old Persian also ticks all the boxes with his racing performance and pedigree. With earnings of just under €4 million, Old Persian won nine races from aged two to four, from 8f to 12f in England, UAE and Canada including two Group 1's and three Group 2's.’
‘With so many mares now descending from the Sadlers Wells line, it is a big bonus that Old Persian is by Dubawai (already sire of Grade 1 NH winners, Dodging Bullets at Cheltenham and Hisaabat at Punchestown) and is from the female line of Leading Sire Kingmambo, himself a son of the exceptional Miesque.’
‘Breeder reaction to Old Persian has been terrific in spite of the current Covid-19 travel restrictions which means that only a limited number of mare owners have been able to see him in the flesh but we are hoping that there will be a big improvement in this situation in the weeks ahead.’
Old Persian joins Blue Bresil, Malinas, Shirocco, Sholokhov and Youmzain at Glenview Stud.
