McParlan reaches 200 with Loughanmore victory

Noel McParlan reached a milestone in his career when riding his 200th point-to-point winner in Saturday’s finale at Loughanmore aboard Faith Loving for Caroline McCaldin.

McParlan has been a leading presence within northern region for a number of years having won the regional championship there on three occasions in 2013, 2015 and 2017, whilst this season he currently sits in fourth spot in that title race with eight victories to his name.

This milestone 200th success has come just under 20 years since his first in the pointing sphere which was recorded at Necarne in May 2002 aboard Silverbridge.

2018 was a memorable year for McParlan as he registered his first winner at the Cheltenham Festival aboard Missed Approach when the pair landed the Kim Muir Chase for trainer Warren Greatrex.

Domestically, he has been associated with many notable horses over the years including, Definitely Red who won his maiden at Loughanmore in 2013, the ill-fated Flemenshill who was subsequently sold for £480,000 after winning his maiden at Oldtown in 2017, and subsequent Grade 1 winner Slate House.

All the while it has been his father Sean who has supplied him most of his winners followed by other leading handlers in the northern region Colin McBratney, Gerry Cosgrave and Noel Kelly.
