Down The Highway grasps victory from Lord Schnitzel

The long time leader, Lord Schnitzel was denied his sixth win of the season as Down the Highway got up in the dying strides to grasp victory in the Jack Tyner Memorial Hunters’ Chase at Cork.

The Ciaran Murphy trained Down The Highway hadn’t looked the likely winner for much of the race as Lord Schnitzel and eventual runner-up had travelled strongly, having made the running throughout most of the race.

Lord Schnitzel was sent off the 7/4 favourite and looked to have put the race to bed between the second last and last fence, Down The Highway kept on well for pressure behind the eventual second place and picked up the running to lead within the dying strides.

It was a jump back to winning ways after a 16th placed effort in the Aintree Foxhunters last time for the nine-year-old Duke Of Marmalade, with the gelding looking to have appreciated the drop-down in grade for handler Ciaran Murphy and rider Timmy Love, Grandson of assistant trainer Dot Love.

Dot Love spoke to irishracing.com and stated "it is great to have the opportunity to stand in for Ciaran today and to have a winner and for my grandson to ride it makes it even better."

"Ciaran was riding out Enjoy D'allen yesterday morning and I said can I ride this horse and he said 'ah shur why not' and on we went, he was in great form!"

"It was a brilliant ride and he trusted him. He went to the Foxhunters but didn't enjoy that so much. It was well worth the drive today."
