Ferns Lock continued his upward trajectory when running out an impressive victory of the INHSC Tetratema Cup at Gowran Park in the hands of Barry O’Neill.
The pair never looked in any real danger apart from getting in close to one of the fences down the back straight on the first circuit.
Winning rider Barry O’Neill reported afterwards: ‘He got in tight to one on the back straight and actually pulled a shoe. He travels away strongly and just wants to get on with things, he would have no problem taking a lead he’d be a 100%.’
‘To be honest with you, he’s just so far ahead of anything else at the moment your kind of restricting him a bit but I have no doubt going forward he will be fine.’
‘He has everything to be honest with you, everyone was talking about Cheltenham this year but myself and David had a chat earlier in the year and we just thought it was year too soon for him, he’s still only learning, that was only his sixth start. Next year with a hunter chase campaign under his belt he will be a force to be reckoned with.’
