Coral Gold Cup Sale Launches in Style at Newbury

The inaugural Coral Gold Cup Sale by Goffs got off to the strongest possible start with a select catalogue of 22 horses turning over £2.1 million with 13 lots making six figure prices.

With the leading owners, trainers and agents in attendance, the busy Newbury ring saw 18 of the 21 horses sold and the top price of £200,000 shared by two lots. The first to reach the mark was Sam Curling’s 4YO filly Half Past Tipsy (Lot 6), the smart winner of her most recent PTP at Quakerstown, which sold to Gavin Cromwell. That price was then matched later in the sale when Denis Murphy’s 4YO gelding The Bluesman (Lot 18), who placed third on his debut PTP at Dromahane, sold to Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls.

Other lots to feature were Jonathan Fogarty Racing’s Mulinas (Lot 10), which was knocked down to JP McGrath Bloodstock for £170,000 and Colin Bowe’s Hawthorn Street (Lot 3) which sold to Stroud Coleman and Jonjo O'Neill for £155,000.

Goffs UK’s Managing Director Tim Kent commented:

“Say no to a one-horse race. It was on these foundations that we decided to launch our new Coral Gold Cup Sale as we firmly believe that competition is vital for the bloodstock market. To come to Newbury after a 10-year absence and deliver this sale has been a wonderful result for Goffs and we would like to thank our loyal vendors who backed this venture with some of their very best horses and were rightly rewarded. As ever, there is always an unknown element to any new venture and we are delighted to have delivered yet another vibrant and lively sale at a top-class race meeting."

“Goffs are the market leaders in offsite sales and we are thrilled to have Newbury back on our sales calendar. The whole team at Newbury Racecourse have been fantastic to work with and the venue is superb for these sales so we are excited about a long and fruitful association with the wonderful Coral Gold Cup meeting.”
