Weekend Preview | Portrush 20th Oct

Race 1: Dennison Commercials Ltd 4yo Maiden

Donnachadh Doyle went home with the winner of the opening races at both Toomebridge and Moira, and he has a strong hand here in a bid to win the opener on three successive Saturdays, with Loughanmore final fence faller, Lone Rocket, and Loughrea-second, ONTHEFRONTFOOT.

Highate Hill travelled well for a long way at Oldcastle, whilst Braeside just failed at Toomebridge when going down by a neck, and has the recent race fitness edge over many in here.

Race 2: Gormleys Pharmacy & Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham 5yo Geldings Maiden

The Colin McKeever-trained GETAMAN returned a much improved performer when finishing second on the opening day of the season at Toomebridge, and he could have finished even closer, but for a costly mistake at the last. He could be one to watch here.

Oscar Academy is another horse with recent race fitness on his side, and if he could get back to some of his spring form, he would certainly hold chances in a race like this.

Of the others, Lough Derg Sunrise was strongly fancied ahead of his Toomebridge run and is certainly worth a second chance around this track, which may play more to his strengths.

Race 3:  Philip Tweedie & Co. 5yo Mares Maiden

The well-related JASPER BEAR returns from a summer break following a debut spring campaign which hinted at real promise with three placed runs.

This could be an ideal opportunity for her to get off the mark. Inintyfive pulled-up around here on her final start of last season, but returned an improved performer when third at Moira last Saturday, and her connections will be hoping that she can build on that here.

Race 4:     The Inn on the Coast Open

SAMBREMONT upset his stable companion Vinnie Luck around here in May and he seems to reserve many of his best performance for this course having run the subsequent dual hunter chase winner Sizing Coal to within a neck in this race 12 months ago.

Eddies Miracle and Bridgets Pet, are both sure to have improved for their reappearance last Saturday, whilst Milan Flyer was a dual winner in the spring, albeit in far more testing conditions that he is likely to encounter here.

Race 5: Royal Court Hotel Winner Of Three

Dual winner KADMER has only been campaigned on the Cork-Waterford circuit to date with former handler Raymond Hurley, and he is sure to be of big interest here after joining the David Christie team over the summer.

With decent runs in open company behind capable performers, such as Fennos Storm and Oighear Dubh to his name, this could be an ideal starting point for him.

He does surrender recent race fitness to Star Wizard and Lisnagreggan, who finished first and second at Castletown a fortnight ago, and Oscar Light, the winner of the opening mares maiden of the season, a race that is already working out well.

Race 6:     Eurospar, Coleraine 6yo Geldings Maiden

It has paid to follow track recruits in this division across the opening weekends of the new season, and on that basis it could be worth following the ex-track performers, BANK MAN or Secret Approach.

The former is 10-year-old who had run well in some handicap hurdles for Michael OHare, and although his outings in recent times have been somewhat sparse, this is his pointing debut.

Of those with points form, Tawnawully is the standout performer on his close third at Taylorstown and is still unexposed.
