Irish Pointers cleansweep in Thurles Grade 3

The feature race on the card at Thurles today was the BetVictor Michael Purcell Memorial Novice hurdle, and the Grade 3 contest was dominated by former Irish Pointers.

Three of the six runners were former pointers and they monopolised the first three positions in the £50,000 valuable contest.

The race went the way of the John McConnell-trained Go Another One who won by three and-three-quarter lengths in the colours of Caroline Ahearn having been steered to success by Robbie Power.

The son of Stowaway had finished second in a Dawstown four-year-old geldings’ maiden under Jamie Codd, when under the care of Cork-based hander Colin Motherway back in May 2016.

He was then sold at the Tattersalls Cheltenham May sale for £45,000 and now holds an entry for the another big upcoming Grade 3 with the Coral Cup handicap hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival a potential upcoming target.

Henry De Bromhead’s Notebook was second in the colours of Gigginstown House Stud, with this son of Samum having run three times in points, getting off the mark at the third time of asking in a five-year-old-geldings’ maiden at Dromahane last May while under the care of Tipperary-based handler John Nallen.

The one, two, three for pointers was completed by the Joseph O’Brien-trained Denwork who completed a two, three for his owner Gigginstown House Stud.

The grey son of Network was fifth in a Dawstown four-year-old- geldings’ maiden back in 2017 when under the care of Pat Doyle.
