Former Irish pointers enjoyed 27 winners in UK points last weekend across eight different meetings. The graduates have come from 25 different handlers based in Ireland. We take a closer look at some of the stand out winners.
FRIARS HAUGH
CAVE HUNTER
Cave Hunter enjoyed a season pointing in Ireland with Philip Dempsey back in 2012/2013. The son of Court Cave won on his sixth start at Tattersalls and was subsequently sold at the Goffs UK August sale for £6,000.
Wendy Hamilton has trained the 12-year-old since then and has enjoyed great success in hunt chases in 2016 and 2017. Cave Hunter has run in UK points on two occasions this season for Hamilton, winning last Saturday at Friars Haugh in the Men's Open.
MONMOUTH SHOWGROUNDS
RIO BRAVO
Rio Bravo started in Colin Bowes yard in Wexford, the Westerner gelding enjoyed three runs in Irish points in 2015 before Graeme Mcpherson began training him in the UK. The eight-year-old gelding returned to pointing this season for trainer David Gibbs, winning on his last outing at Monmouth Showgrounds on Saturday.
HORSEHEATH
NEUMOND
Neumond fell on his point debut in Ireland back in March 2015 for Sam Curling. The son of Sholokhov subsequently went on to be trained by Nicky Henderson for one season before Stuart Morris began training the eight-year-old for UK points.
Now owned by Judy Wilson, the bay has recorded six wins from ten, with his most recent success in the conditions race at Horseheath on Saturday.
KINGSTON BLOUNT
FREE OF CHARGE
Free Of Charge spent three seasons racing on the track in the UK before Gordon Elliot began training the gelding in Ireland. The son of Stowaway ran in nine point-to-points for Elliot until he was sold at the 2017 Ascot August sale for £5,500.
Having been unraced in 2018 the chestnut resumed his racing career with a point win at Kingston Blount for current trainer Tom Ellis on Sunday.
MAISEMORE PARK
BLACK JACK ROVER
Black Jack Rover recorded a four-length success in the Conditions race at Maisemore Park on Sunday for Thomas Faulkner. The ten-year-old is another to start in County Wexford with Colin Bowe, winning his debut start at Tinahely in the hands of Barry O'Neill.
Donald McCain subsequently trained the gelding on the track from 2014 to 2018 before Faulkner began training the son of Vinnie Roe.
SHERIFF HUTTON
BUCK DANCING
Buck Dancing found success in Irish points on his debut start for Andy Slattery when winning the four-year-old maiden at Lisronagh back in May 2013. The son of Kings Theatre went on to enjoy a successful track career for Edward Harty and later Patrick Kelly before returning to pointing in the UK with current trainer Jessica Bedi.
The ten-year-old has recorded two from two this season in UK points, most recently scoring success in the Intermediate race at Sheriff Hutton last Sunday.
