Global Citizen takes the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Wayward Novice Chase at Kempton

Global Citizen impressed when landing the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices Chase for trainer Ben Pauling in the hands of David Bass after making all.

The son of Alkaadhem put in a good round of jumping before he went on to fend off a number of challengers at the final two fences and the 8/1 shot then dug deep to come home a length-and-a-half in front of Rouge Vif.

The seven-year-old made his chasing debut at Carlise in October where he finished fourth and today it seemed he bounced back from that run to add a third Grade 2 victory to his career winnings.

Global Citizen started life out with handler William Murphy when he recorded an impressive four-length victory at Bellurgan Park in his five-year-old geldings' maiden before being sold for £275,000 at Chelteneham Tattersalls sales in 2017.

"If he didn't win today he would probably have gone back for the Champion Hurdle, that's why we threw him in at the deep end on ground that he would not necessairly love. He is good fresh, so you might not see him out until the spring," said trainer Ben Pauling to IrishRacing.com.

"He has got so many gears, he just makes it so hard to get on terms with him. They were all queueing up behind him, but to get to him is one thing - to get past is another."
