Samurai Cracker scores in the Limerick Hunters Chase

Co. Down handler Caroline McCaldin teamed up with Cork native Johnny Barry to take the Earl of Harrington Meomrial Maiden Hunters Chase at Limerick courtesy of Samurai Cracker.

The win provided Barry wih his third success in the last four renewals of the hunter chase and saw him steer home the six-year-old gelding four-and-a-half lengths ahead of the David Christie trained Winged Leader.

The son of Mr Dinos, who was appearing for the first time under rules, was runner-up on three occasions between the flags and most recently finished and eye-cathcing second in November at Kirkistown when beaten only a short head by On The Sod. The six-year-old also found success when winning his point-to-point at Mainstown in January by two lengths.

"He won his point-to-point and has been second three times since that win. He always had ability but we were just unlucky, everywhere we went we kept running into one," said McCaldin when speaking with IrishRacing.com.

"He is a big horse and is one of 12 horses I have in training at home. I am point-to-pointing mainly but we have a couple of others for the track and my previous winner with It'll Do Right who won at Catterick (December 2017)."

"I'm based at Dromara Co.Down and it took me three and a half hours to come down."

"Regarding plans she quipped "I'm going to take him home and scratch his ears!".
