Annalecka runs out an easy bumper winner at Tipperary

Annalecka made an immediate impression on her first start since joining Kildare trainer Mark Fahey as she ran out an eye-catching winner of the Millenium Surveys mares’ point-to-point bumper at Tipperary.

A maiden winner at Oldtown in February on her second and final start for Colin Bowe, the six-year-old had failed to find a buyer in the sales ring when led out of the ring unsold for £24,000 from the Cheltenham sales in February.

Switched to Fahey to start her track campaign, the Fame And Glory mare was sent off as a 14/1 shot, however she picked up smartly early in the home straight as Johnny Barry stole a march on his rivals.

Try as hard as she might, the Curraghmore maiden winner Pitwood Road was unable to get any closer than the winning margin of two and three-quarter lengths at the line, with a further eight lengths back to the favourite, the Dromahane maiden winner Spindleberry.

“She looks smart, she doesn’t show how smart she is at home to be honest. She won her point-to-point well and came from a good school,” Fahey said.

“She was ready to run, and the point-to-point bumper came up, so we said we would take our chance and see how she got on.

“Her owners tried to sell her after her win, but I am delighted to get her. Johnny [Barry] was impressed, he said that when he got the final furlong pole, she ran around a bit, so we are happy.

“She will probably kick on over hurdles and we’ll look forward to her.”
