Saturday morning inspections for Tinahely and Ballindenisk

There will be an 8.30am inspection at both Ballindenisk and Tinahely on Saturday morning in order to evaluate if the rescheduled fixtures due to take place later that day can go ahead.

Both the United Hunt (F) Lisgoold fixture in Ballindenisk, and Shillelagh & District (F) fixture at Tinahely were originally cancelled last Sunday due to the cold snap, and rechecheduled to Saturday afternoon with original entries standing.

Although the 48-hour inspection was put by back to Friday afternoon in order to allow the temperatures to improve, the track at Ballindenisk was still found to be partially unraceable.

“Parts of the track are unraceable at the moment, we will hold a further inspection at 8.30am to determine if racing can go ahead,” Course Inspector James Carroll stated.

“The going at present is Soft, Heavy in places. The forecast is to stay above two to three degrees throughout the night and to ride to six to eight degrees tomorrow morning.”

If the additional inspection at Ballindenisk is passed, the six-race card will get underway at 12.30pm with the five-year-old geldings’ maiden having attracted the largest entry on the card.

There was optimism that racing will take place in Tinahely tomorrow.

“Parts of the track are still unracecable, slightly frozen, but with a favourable forecast tonight we are hoping that racing will go ahead,” Course Inspector Niall Madden said. “We will hold an 8.30am inspection tomorrow morning and we are hoping racing will go ahead.”

The six-race card in Fairwood Park is scheduled to get underway at 12.30pm, with the going described as Soft.

Following an inspection, the track at Clonmel (H) Turtulla was found to be unraceable due to a significant covering of snow and the Point to Point fixture scheduled for Sunday 12 January has been postponed and rescheduled to Saturday 18 January. Original entries to stand.

The IHRB has announced that the fixture scheduled to take place at Turtulla on Sunday has been cancelled after the course failed the 48-hour course inspection on Friday afternoon due to a significant covering of snow on the track.

Tipperary has been one of the counties worst hit by the current cold snap, with snow falling last week remaining on the course leaving it unfit for racing.

The fixture will now take place next Saturday, January 18th with original entries standing.
