IHRB Point to Point Stewards Enquiry Co. Down (S) Point to Point Meeting Saturday 29 March 2025

The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr Aidan Coonan, rider of Squire Ohara, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 6yo & Upwards Geldings Maiden

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(i) in that he had used the whip without allowing or appearing to allow his mount at least three strides to respond.

Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr Aidan Coonan
for one Point to Point raceday.

Ballymacad (F) Point to Point Meeting Sunday 30 March 2025

The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr P. Egan, rider of Hummus, placed third, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 6yo & Upwards Maiden.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that he was in breach of the relevant whip Regulation.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(i) in that he had used the whip without allowing or appearing to allow his mount at least three strides to respond.

Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr P. Egan, for one
Point to Point raceday.

Duhallow (F) Liscarroll Point to Point Meeting Sunday 30 March 2025

The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr L. Burke Ott, rider of Red Night Sky, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 6yo & Upwards Mares Maiden – Division 1.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(h) in that he had used the whip with his arm being or appearing to be above shoulder height.

Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr L. Burke Ott for one Point to Point raceday.

The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr A.T. Feeney, rider of Lonely Dancer (FR), placed first, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(h) in that he had used the whip with his arm being or appearing to be above shoulder height.

Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr A.T. Feeney for two Point to Point racedays.

Prior to the running of th5yo Geldings Maiden, the Acting Stewards met with Mr F. Maguire, Mr E. Mahon,
Mr E.P. O’Brien & Mr C.J. Shine in relation to safety concerns, following the declaration of 17 runners in this race.

Having considered the views of the Riders, the Acting Stewards ordered that this race be divided.

Bree (F) Point to Point Meeting Sunday 30 March 2025

The Acting Stewards interviewed Mr S.E. O’Rourke, rider of Sunset Vista, placed second, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of the 4yo Mares Maiden – Division 2.

Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.

Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Acting Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 58. 3.(i) in that he had used the  whip without allowing or appearing to allow his mount at least three strides to respond.

Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Acting Stewards suspended Mr S.E. O’Rourke,
for two Point to Point racedays.

Following the running of this race, the Acting Stewards met with a delegation of Riders to discuss safety concerns in relation to Fence 4. Having considered the views of the Riders, the Acting Stewards using their powers in accordance with Regulation 22 (x), ordered that Fence 4 be removed from all remaining races at
this fixture.
