Kilkenny native Hugh McOwan made his debut aboard the locally trained Phar Island for Tom Mullins in a QR Maiden at Leopardstown in July 2017. His first ten rides came on the track in flat races or bumpers, before his first outing in a point-to-point aboard Just A Boy for Gordon Elliott at Borris House in December 2019, where they finished fourth. He has since turned conditional.
