A nephew of the well-known Limerick handler John Gleeson, and cousin of jockey Billy Gleeson, Patrick had his first ride between the flags at Boulta in December 2022 aboard Lodge Prince for handler Pat O'Donnell, with a first success coming aboard Brian Mortell's Daicheadacuig at Rathcannon in April 2023. It was O'Donnell who then supplied the UL Food Science graduate with his first track success when Extensio won a maiden hurdle at Roscommon in August 2023 in what was his first rider over hurdles. Six winners during the 2024/25 campaign was a personal best season's tally.

The 23 year-old Limerick Native follwed in many of his families footsteps when taking his amateur license out in December of 2022 and just a short few months later he partnered the Brian Mortell trained Daicheadacuig to victory giving him his first point-to-point winner.
