Cork native Shane Cotter made an immediate impact on the point-to-point circuit with an initial season to remember, as within two months of his initial ride at Tinahely in October 2023, he gained his first victory aboard the Billy Codd-trained Special Prep at Lingstown. Striking up a successful partnership with David Christie, he rode six winners for the Fermanagh handler in that opening season which include a pair aboard the champion point-to-pointer Winged Leader. By the season's end, he had ridden 15 winners to be crowned champion under-21 rider.
