Gortnamoney Farm incorporating Moira Equestrian Centre and Schooling Gallops
is a family run business situated in Moira, Co Armagh. It is run by the Allen family and offers grass gallops, schooling fences & hurdles, schooling races and a go as you please cross-country course.
The Allen’s farm is two miles from the Moira turnoff on the M1 and is very central to most people in Northern Ireland.
The Schooling grounds (the old p2p track) are used daily by many of Northern Irelands top trainers and include a 7 furlong gallop and 3 furlong breeze up.There are also 3 NH schooling fences and 2 schooling hurdles in the middle of the course.
Schooling Days (hurdles and bumpers) these take place, weather permitting on a monthly basis (between September and March) on a separate track to the Iveagh's point to point track over 2 miles and Easyfix hurdles are used.
The XC course at Moira Equestrian Centre is open all year round.
The course was opened in May 2010 and covers 8 acres of ground. It makes it a compact course in which spectators can view every single jump.
The course consists of 16 different types of fences with tyres, ditches, Chicken coupes, brush, flower box, cottage fences, banks and steps to name a few.
All fences include three height options: 3ft 3" (100cm), 2ft 9" (85cm) and 2ft 3" (70cm).
There is also an excellent water complex in the middle of the course which offers many ways in and out of the water including jumping over logs and walking in and out.
All fences on the course feature an all-weather surface on the take-off and landings.
MEC also have 8 show jumps at the top of the course on grass. Show Jumps are only available from April to September on grass and some jumps are moved to the all- weather parts of the field during winter.
All facilities are open 7 days a week.
An excellent wash bay is available for the horses.
Schooling will be run under strict Covid-19 racing protocols with access only permitted for riders, trainers and grooms.
