Shantou Enjoys Ninth Point Winner of the Season

Shantou's progeny was in winning form last weekend when the John Nallon-trained MINELLA TRUMP  was an impressive six-length winner of the five-year-old geldings race at Ballycahane on Sunday.

The bay is a €42,000 Derby Sale graduate from 2018 and is set to go to the sales once again off the back of this win.

Shantou stands at Burgage Stud and is a six-time winner including the group one St Legers Stakes and the group one Gran Premio Di Milano. The son of Alleged won £678,839 at three and four years. Shantou has a total of nine point winners to date this season already equalling the stallions total number of point winners from the 2017/2018 season.

Shantou is a proven national hunt sire and some of his most successful horses have been point-to-point graduates including Briar Hill, Ballynagour, Morning Assembly and Shantou Village.

BRIAR HILL is a five-time winner with successes in the likes of the grade one Navan Novice hurdle and the grade one Weatherby's Cheltenham Festival Champion Bumper for Willie Mullins. The eleven-year-old won the four-year-old geldings race at Necarne in 2012 on his second ever start for Colin McKeever.

BALLYNAGOUR won his four-year-old point-to-point on his third start for SRB Crawford at Kirkistown. The bay gelding has gone on to have success on the track with a win in the grade three Byrne Group Plate at the Cheltenham Festival and second place in the grade one Champion Chase at Punchestown.

SHANTOU VILLAGE won his four-year-old maiden race at Loughanmore on his debut start for Denis Murphy. The bay gelding was subsequently sold to Neil Mulholland for €80,000 in November 2014 having cost €27,000 at the Land Rover Sales in 2013. The nine-year-old has won three hurdle races and five chases for Neill Mullholland on the track to date.
