Maxine O'Sullivan takes the Leading Ladies Title

The Leading Ladies title went right down to the wire this year with the winner being decided in the final race of the season.

In the end the spoils went to Maxine O'Sullivan when she found success in the eight-year-old and upwards maiden at Ballingarry aboard Clorinka for Mick Winters. Maxine secured the title on seven wins leaving Susie Doyle in second with six winners. 

Maxine put in a late bid in the title race having ridden three winners within the last three days of racing in the pointing calendar. The three victories were enough to move her up from third place in the table to take the win.

The victory marks her third time winning the ladies title having previously been crowned joined leading lady rider in 2010 alongside Liz Lalor and having won the title outright in 2014. 

Of her seven winners, Maxine enjoyed five winners for father Eugene O'Sullivan while Sam Curling and Mick Winters also provided a winner apiece.

Six of this three-time leading lady riders successes were ridden in the Southern region while she rode one winner in the North. 

This season saw 12 ladies record winners with just two riders, Maxine and Susie Doyle, riding over five winners and two more, Liz Lalor and Lisa O'Neill, riding 4 winners each. 

For the last two years the title has gone to the aforementioned Liz Lalor, who rode her 100th career winner during the season, while the runner up, Susie Doyle, has only been riding for two seasons and enjoyed her first career winner this year.
