David Murphy trains first winner as a handler

David Murphy has ridden three winners between the flags, and sent out his first winner as a handler on Sunday, taking the concluding six-year-old and upwards geldings' maiden with his son of Millenary, Etoile Du Matin.

Carrying the colours of his father Jeff who rides out with David, Murphy's charge won by a very comfortable 20 lengths in the hands of Ray Barron.

"We were absolutely delighted, over the moon with him. We always thought he was a nice horse, and it was great to see him doing it."

"He's shown us plenty at home, and I always liked him. "

"If he's not sold, we will go for a winner-of-one, we will point-to-point him away and we might go for that bonus race in Dromahane, and we might send him back to Doncaster then"

Murphy's brother Brian is training in America, and David also did a stint in America for a period as a farrier.

Murphy has not ridden in a point-to-point in a while, but he does aim to return to riding in the coming weeks.

"I will definitely return riding, I have just been struggling a bit with my weight."

"I might ride one of the horses in a few week's time."

"I'm not 100% finished with the riding yet, I will ride a couple of the older horses, Ray Barron and Shane Baragry will ride the younger ones, they help us out at any chance they get."

The Murphy family have had numerous winners down through the years, with Velkera being the most recent and notable.
