Last Quarter completes impressive day for Walk In The Park

Last Quarter completed a domination of the day’s three four-year-old point-to-point bumpers for Walk In The Park as he made the perfect start to his racing career.

Always to the fore, the 7/4 favourite had a gap of a couple of lengths to bridge on Pay The Pilot when Jack Hendrick sent his mount for home rounding the home bend, however as proved to be the case in the day’s earlier four-year-old maiden for geldings, a lot can chance in the home straight and that proved to be the case once again.

Last Quarter and General Medrano both quickly reeled in Pay The Pilot before the furlong marker and that horse quickly dropped to third before staging something of a rally in the closing stages to regain the second spot.

In the end Last Quarter obliged by one and a half length over Sean Doyle’s Pay The Pilot, with a further three and a half lengths back to General Medrano in third.

The success also completed a double on the card for Colin Bowe and Barry O’Neill following the earlier success for Ernest Gray and O’Neill said:

“We really liked him at home he was showing us all the right signs, I was just a little worried about whether he would be sharp enough for these bumpers because we don’t really train them for bumpers it would be steady work away. He was tough and he was good today.

“The ground is very soft out there, I was taking a lead and they slowed it a bit up front and he seemed to be happy so I just let him do his own thing. He was a little bit idley up the straight but when the other horse came to him he really picked up and was having a good look in the last 100 yards so that shows there was plenty still in the tank.

“I think down the line he will make an absolutely smashing staying chaser.”
