Declan Lavery reached a career milestone on Saturday when registering his 50th winner between the flags when guiding the Gary Dillion trained Drumlee Castle to victory in the Kennys Eurospar six-year-old and upwards geldings maiden at Portrush.
The was Lavery’s second winner of the afternoon as he took the five-year-old geldings maiden earlier on the card aboard Glebe Road for handler Patrick Turley.
The Downpatrick native has built-up a very successful relationship with former rider-turned handler Patrick Turley, with the pair successful with My Whirlwind who was sold for £400,000.
Lavery in the past has been associated with Brian Hamilton and it was the County Down handler that provided him with his initial points winner, Hey R Fella at Taylorstown in October 2011.
As well as partnering many top open horses such as Warne, Maple Mons and Mr Bolt to success, Lavery has also guided some expensive four-year-old’s to victory including Lecale’s Article at Largy and Loughanmore winners Lucky Pass and Bach de Clermont.
