Corach Rambler won back-to-back editions of the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last month and has now added a Grand National win to his tally.
The 8-1 favourite was little fazed by the 15 minute delay owning to protestors on the track.
The Lucinda Russell trained gelding produced a strong finish under Derek Fox to register a two and three quarter length victory over the fast finishing Gavin Cromwell trained Vanillier.
The son of Jeremy was never too far on the pace and got a clear round managing to avoid any trouble, he jumped to the front at the second last and stayed on strongly on the run-in.
The nine-year-old started his career with John Walsh when winning an older maiden at Monksgrange in September 2020 in the hands of Sean Staples. That was his seventh victory since joining the Lucinda Russell team.
A delighted Derek Fox, told ITV Racing; ‘He is just a phenomenal horse. I can't believe it. He normally gets his head up a wee bit but today he travelled everywhere for me.’
‘He is just the cleverest horse. He is so intelligent."
An elated winning trainer Lucinda Russell remarked afterwards she had been in tears for most of the race.
‘I was in tears as the tapes went up, I cried for most of the race and then as he started to really get into it I realised he was loving it out there.’
‘He just loved the fences, he just loved everything about it. It's very personal this one. I'll always remember One for Arthur, he was a brilliant horse, but this is just very special.’
This was Russell’s and Fox’s second Grand National win who were successful with One For Arthur in 2017. He too was a former Irish point-to-pointer having won his maiden at Lingstown for handler Liam Kenny.
